Travelling via the poignant Commando Memorial, we make our way to Fort Augustus, located at the southern tip of Loch Ness, where we enjoy an included cruise. With informative commentary and top-of-the-range sonar equipment, there’s no better way to experience the views, sights, wildlife, history, and legend of Loch Ness.
We take the Argyll Coastal Route to reach Oban – a bustling harbour town situated on a sheltered horseshoe bay, protected by the Inner Hebridean island of Kerrea. The ‘Road to the Isles’ is considered one of the best drives in Scotland. Travelling from Fort William to Mallaig, this route passes forests, historic sights, shimmering lochs, beaches, and moors topped with purple heather. We take to the waters in Mallaig, with the Isles of Skye, Rhum and Eigg in the distance. These waters are frequently visited by a variety of birds, seals, porpoises, dolphins, whales and basking sharks.
We return to Fort William, making a stop at the Glenfinnan Visitor Centre. Take a stroll to the Glenfinnan Monument on the shores of the loch, or admire the spectacular Glenfinnan Viaduct – an iconic structure famous for its appearance in the Harry Potter films!
